Community Involvement
At Medtronic, our Mission is to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life. Our Mission also calls us to maintain good citizenship as a company.
Giving has been a long-standing tradition at Medtronic - one to which we have been committed since the company was founded in 1949. Over the years, we have contributed more than $500 million to communities throughout the world.
The Medtronic Foundation in Canada
The Medtronic Foundation is Medtronic’s primary vehicle for making charitable donations. Its primary focus is to improve the health of people and communities by focusing our resources in areas where we can make unique and positive contributions.
We give because we believe sharing our resources with our communities is the right thing to do. By working in partnership with our communities, we make our commitment real and help people enjoy healthy and productive lives. In all our efforts, programmes that serve socio-economically disadvantaged people continue to be our top priority.
In Canada, the Medtronic Foundation is partnering with patient associations that educate, support, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. The Medtronic Foundation is also supporting organizations that improve health, education, and welfare in communities where a large number of our employees live and work.
Our Mission in Motion
Medtronic encourages employees to live the mission by volunteering and supporting causes in their communities. Medtronic supports employee initiatives in a number of ways.
- Medtronic supports a number of causes on an annual basis which have been chosen by the employees such as the Ride for Heart and the JDRF Walk. Employee teams participate in the events and raise funds through employee activities. The company also provides financial support.
- Medtronic supports the annual United Way campaign by matching employee giving x2 -- that means for every dollar an employee pledges, $3 is donated to the United Way.
- Medtronic also financially supports employees' charities of choice if they raise over $100 in funds for the cause.
- Ad hoc employee initiatives are encouraged, such as our ongoing Soap for Hope which collects toileteries for local shelters and this year's silent auction to raise funds for Haiti relief efforts.
